A weekend in Cannes: how many nights, and which ones

The short answer

A weekend in Cannes is taken in three nights rather than two: that is this apartment’s minimum stay, and it matches Friday evening to Monday morning, which is the format worth the trip anyway. The beaches are 700 metres away, rue d’Antibes 400 and the Palais des Festivals 1.3 kilometres, all on foot. The one real trap is landing on a trade show week without knowing: the calendar on this site says which ones.

Why three nights and not two

The minimum stay is three nights for most of the year, and the calendar on the home page states it date by date, because some periods relax it and others tighten it. A two night request will therefore hit the calendar rather than an answer: better to know before looking.

It is not an arbitrary rule. Between two stays the place is turned around, and a single night costs as much work as a week. Three nights, Friday to Monday, also leave time to arrive without rushing: the train from Nice takes 25 to 30 minutes, the airport bus 45.

The weekends the trade shows take

Cannes runs on the Palais des Festivals, and a dozen international trade shows follow one another from September to June. During those weeks the city fills with delegates, parking gets hard and places are booked months ahead: an improvised weekend is close to impossible.

The verified calendar on this site covers the next twelve months, with dates taken from the organisers’ official sites. The months marked quiet carry no show: those are the ones where a weekend can still be decided a fortnight ahead.

What is walkable from Montfleury

Rue d’Antibes and its shops are 400 metres away, the beaches 700, the Palais des Festivals and the Croisette 1.3 kilometres. Le Suquet, the old town on the hill, is reached by following the seafront. Over three days the car is only useful for leaving Cannes, and it stays parked in the residence.

For a weekend for two as much as for four, the whole place is yours: a separate bedroom, a living room with a sofa bed, a full kitchen and a terrace over the gardens. Nothing is shared with anyone.

Questions that come up

Can you come for just two nights?
As a rule no: the minimum stay is three nights. The calendar on the home page shows the rule date by date, because it varies with the period. A single night between two bookings can stay unsellable even when it looks free, and the calendar shows it.
Which weekend avoids the crowds?
Those in the months the calendar marks as quiet, meaning no show at the Palais des Festivals. July and August carry none, but the city is then full of holidaymakers: the real lull sits between two shows, outside school holidays.
Do you need a car for a weekend in Cannes?
Not from this district: the beaches, the shops and the Palais des Festivals are all on foot. The TER train links Nice every 15 to 20 minutes and the Zou 81 bus the airport in 45 minutes. If you drive, the parking space comes with the residence, which is rare in Cannes.
Are three days in Cannes enough?
For the town itself, yes: the whole centre, the Croisette, Le Suquet and the beaches are walkable in three days without rushing. It is also the length that allows one trip out of Cannes, to the Lérins islands or the hinterland, without losing half of a two day stay to travel.
